Eight transfers that Man City can complete during Club World Cup

Manchester City will be busy in the United States for the next four weeks but they still have transfer business to complete

Manchester City are currently in Miami looking to lift a trophy that only FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his massive key can unlock. Yes, that did feel strange to write.

Pep Guardiola and a squad of 27 players are looking to put a disappointing season behind them and relaunch the latest version of a side that has dominated English football for the last decade ahead of the manager's tenth year in charge. Thomas Frank's move to Tottenham leaves Guardiola three years clear of his nearest rival as the longest-serving in the division, and he is hungry to prove that he has lost none of his edge.

The club have helped him to the tune of an initial £108m in the first transfer window of the summer, and new sporting director Hugo Viana has already set up another deal. Rosenborg 18-year-old Sverre Nypan will sign after the second window opens on Monday for around £12.5m before a loan for next season is sorted.

That will count as two transfers that City can complete while the Club World Cup is going on, and there is other business that can be concluded as the games are going on. Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish were left out of the US trip so that they can arrange moves elsewhere - preferably permanent ones - and be in place in time for the start of the league campaign for their new teams.

There are also a number of academy exits that can be sorted now that none of the youngsters have been picked as part of Guardiola's group in Miami.

Loan deals look to be on the cards for young centre-backs Max Alleyne and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey after both starred in the Under-21 team that topped their league and then won the knockout finals. Both would have hoped to have made the Club World Cup squad but can instead use the time to get a good loan and give themselves as much of pre-season as possible to bed in and make the best start they can.

The same goes for full-back Lakyle Samuel, who has had a steady year playing a lot of football for the Under-19s and Under-21s. He is another to have already spoken of a loan move, and fits into a similar bracket.

There have also been reports of Sunderland being interested in midfielder Charlie Gray. The 19-year-old is seen as an answer for the Premier League newcomers to replace Jobe Bellingham after his move to Dortmund, which could lead to a permanent transfer that it is in the interest of all parties to sort sooner rather than later.

Once the Club World Cup is over, there could well be move movement in the City squad with a couple of loan exits expected and the potential for some senior departures. Ederson's future is of particular interest, while there have been more reports linking Ilkay Gundogan with another departure.

But even while Guardiola and his players go for glory in the US, there are plenty of deals that City can be getting on with in another busy summer.
