David Ornstein says Aston Villa are close to agreeing a loan deal for Liverpool star

Aston Villa are making a late push to bolster their squad with attacking talent on deadline day.

Jadon Sancho is expected to arrive at Villa Park after Manchester United agreed to loan the forward until the end of the season.

Unai Emery has endured a torrid start to the Premier League season, culminating in a 3-0 loss against Crystal Palace heading into the international break.

And with Emi Martinez pushing to join Man United, going in the opposite direction of Sancho, Villa are continuing to explore the loan market on deadline day.

The Villans want another attacking signing after Sancho, and now it appears that Emery has landed his man.

Aston Villa are advancing in their efforts to sign Harvey Elliott

According to David Ornstein, Aston Villa are close to reaching an agreement with Liverpool for a loan deal for Harvey Elliott, which is expected to include an obligatory purchase option; the Reds are holding out for £35 million.

TBR Football reported that Liverpool had no intention of selling Elliott before the deadline, even if a club matched their valuation of the midfielder.

The Reds were believed to be holding out for £40m with a buy-back option and £50m without, but are now set to allow Elliott to join Aston Villa on a temporary basis.

Elliott has been eager to explore his options this summer after seeing his minutes dramatically reduced under Arne Slot last season.

As reported, Liverpool were not prepared to weaken the squad in the final hours of the summer transfer window by sanctioning Elliott’s departure.

However, the midfielder has expressed his desire for regular first-team football since the end of the season, and three games into the 2025/26 campaign, it is clear he will not have his wish granted at Anfield.

Therefore, Liverpool have lowered their demands to Elliott and are willing to sell the player to a direct Premier League rival, and Aston Villa are now set to acquire their Jacob Ramsey replacement.
