Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has provided an update on Chris Wood ahead of Manchester United's visit to the City Ground in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim's team will travel to the East Midlands after enjoying a rare weekend off following the return of football post-international break. With the FA Cup now out of the way, United will look to claim back-to-back league wins for the first time under Amorim.

The last meeting between the sides earlier this season, ended in a 3-2 win for the visitors at Old Trafford. Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes both scored but Chris Wood's third goal for Forest made the difference.

However, this time around, Wood is a huge doubt for the clash. The talismanic striker, who was injured on international duty with New Zealand, missed the FA Cup victory over Brighton at the weekend.

The 33-year-old was substituted against New Caledonia last week and Nuno explicitly ruled him out of the quarter-final. However, he was not so definite about the game with the Reds.

"He is improving. He is getting better day by day," the Portuguese said. "We have to assess him day by day. It is all about him being pain free and then getting back to fitness."

Besides Wood, Nuno admitted concerns around other players, including Morgan Gibbs-White. The England international collided with a post at the Amex. Forest played 120 minutes against Brighton before the FA Cup tie was decided on penalties.

"Of course we have after we played extra-time. We have to assess them all," Nuno added. "We are recovering well. The joy and the happiness of coming through and getting to play at Wembley will give us an extra run for tomorrow, for sure."

Anthony Elanga could be in line for a recall against his former club after starting the game on the bench on Saturday.
