Social media users attacked Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) stand-in skipper Riyan Parag for his attitude towards fans as some found his actions unbecoming of an Indian cricketer.

Parag, leading in his hometown, oversaw RR end their Guwahati leg with their first win in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six runs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.

Riyan Parag was also fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate during the RR vs CSK match.

Rajasthan successfully defended 182 against Chennai but couldn’t finish their 20 overs within the stipulated time frame, which led skipper Parag to face the penalty.

After the match, the young captain was happy with his side’s efforts.

“We felt we were 20 short. We were going well in the middle overs but lost a couple of quick wickets. However, our bowlers executed our plans well," Parag said.

“We’ve had two tough games — one where we conceded 280 and another where we couldn’t defend 180. This win was much needed," he added.

They were brilliant on the field with Parag taking a blinder to dismiss Shivam Dube for 18, while Shimron Hetmyer’s splendid catch ended MS Dhoni’s late blitz for 16.

“Fielding makes up for the 20 runs that we were short. We have been working with Dishant Yagnik, our fielding coach. So it shows," Parag said.

The 23-year-old is the first player from Assam to lead an IPL team and was in the news when a local fan invaded the pitch and fell at Parag’s feet during RR’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
