"Even Ben Stokes is impressed when he’s batting": Michael Vaughan bold statement on Indian player

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that even Ben Stokes, the England captain, couldn’t help but admire Rishabh Pant’s incredible batting during the first Test in Leeds. The 27-year-old produced two brilliant centuries, despite India’s five-wicket loss.

Pant made history by becoming only the second designated wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower. His first-innings century also saw him overtake MS Dhoni to become India’s all-time leading century scorer among wicketkeepers.

Discussing Pant’s performance on the Stick to Cricket show, Vaughan commented (via Indian Express):

“There’s a lot of skill behind the way he plays, despite how wild it may seem. You can tell even Ben Stokes is impressed when he’s batting. For me, Adam Gilchrist is the best wicketkeeper batter, but Pant has started a whole new trend. MS Dhoni was incredible in white-ball cricket, but you’d expect someone with Pant’s style to be more suited to limited-overs cricket rather than Tests. However, his record in Tests far surpasses his white-ball performances.”

Pant boasts a strong Test record, having scored 3,200 runs from 44 matches at an average of 44.44 and eight centuries to his name. He was one of four Indian centurions in the Leeds Test, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill.
