Joao Neves earned his first match ball with a stunning hat-trick for Paris Saint-Germain, but then received a gong even more glamorous.

The Portuguese midfielder had the first three-goal game of an already impressive career, but it wasn’t just any hat-trick.

The Man of the Match in a 6-3 win over Toulouse, Neves got the scoring underway with a lightning fast chest and overhead kick of a loose ball in the box in the seventh minute.

Neves’ teammates were already stunned, but he then repeated the feat seven minutes later from even further out, and later added his third with a long-range strike that curled away from the goalkeeper.

Toulouse added to an earlier goal from Englishman Charlie Cresswell to score two late consolation goals, but it took nothing away from a Neves performance that L’Equipe deemed legendary.

The leading European sports outlet is notorious for its tough player ratings, and in getting a 10/10, Neves becomes just the 20th player in history to do so.

The 20-year-old also becomes the second consecutive PSG player to get a 10/10, with the previous recipient Desire Doue who scored a hat-trick in the 2025 Champions League final.

L’Equipe first awarded a 10/10 in 1988 to France goalkeeper Bruno Martini who stunned in the European Under-21 final.

Since then the perfect scores have been few and far between, but there have been some famous recent examples.

Ademola Lookman couldn’t have got anything other than a 10/10 when he scored a hat-trick for Atalanta in the 2024 Europa League final against a previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen.

Erling Haaland’s five-goal display against RB Leipzig in the 2022/23 Champions League was also rewarded, as was Lucas Moura’s memorable Tottenham hat-trick in the semi-finals against Ajax in 2019.

On Neves’ part, his heroics were far less expected, having only scored seven times previously for the French giants.

Neves only joined PSG last summer, with the French side beating Manchester United and Chelsea for his signature.

Joining in a £60million deal from talent factory Benfica, Neves quickly proved worth the money as he excelled at the Parc des Princes.

Playing 52 games in his debut campaign, Neves helped PSG to their first-ever Champions League crown, completing a European double with Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.
