Reports: No hairstylists, cooks and personal security guards to be allowed on tours after revised BCCI rules

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a string of revised rules aimed at organising player discipline and overall professionalism. These changes were made following the Indian team's disappointing performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, where the team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Australia.

India's recent performance in Test cricket has been particularly poor. The time has been challenging for senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom struggled to perform. Rohit averaged just 6.20 runs across five innings Down Under, while Kohli managed 190 runs in nine innings, with consistent dismissals to outside-off-stump deliveries.

The BCCI’s new guidelines have introduced strict rules regarding travel and the presence of personal staff. Players will no longer be allowed to travel with hairstylists, personal cooks, or private security guards during international tours. The board has also asked that players use team transportation for all travel during matches and practice sessions, removing independent travel options.

Additionally, the rules regarding family members on tours have been tightened. On overseas tours exceeding 45 days, players’ families can accompany them for a maximum of 14 days. For shorter tours, this allowance is reduced to a single week. These measures are designed to minimise distractions and ensure players maintain their focus on cricket.

The BCCI is also taking tough calls on players skipping domestic cricket. Consulting from senior board members includes withholding match fees from players who opt out of domestic tournaments without valid reasons. Interestingly, since the board has asked for Indian players to participate in domestic cricket, players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were seen training with their respective state Ranji teams.
