Taylor Fritz completes impressive career achievement as he reaches the quarterfinal in Canada

Taylor Fritz booked his place in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open after defeating Jiri Lehecka in three sets.

Fritz beat Lehecka 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, clinching two of the three tiebreaks to emerge victorious against the Czech star.

The American, searching for his third title of 2025 in Toronto, will face sixth seed Andrey Rublev in his next match.

His impressive season continues to get better, and with his triumph over Lehecka, Fritz has clinched yet another career achievement.

Taylor Fritz’s ATP Masters 1000 feat at the Canadian Open

Fritz is now the first player from outside Europe to reach the quarterfinals of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events since Shanghai’s inauguration in 2009.

The world number four has made the semifinals in Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Shanghai, and won the Indian Wells Open in 2022.

He has made the final four of at least one Masters event every year since 2021, and is now one win away from making his second this season.

His next opponent, Rublev, got the better of him in their last meeting, which came in the Madrid Open semifinal in 2024.

Taylor Fritz’s head-to-head record with Andrey Rublev ahead of their clash

Fritz and Rublev have met nine times on the ATP Tour, with the US star narrowly leading the head-to-head 5-4.

Their first matchup was in the second round of the Indian Wells Open in 2018, which the Russian lost in straight sets.

Rublev won their next two clashes, however, at the ATP Finals later that year, and the Dubai Tennis Championships in 2021.

Then Fritz won three consecutive Masters bouts against him, earning victories in Paris, Indian Wells and Cincinnati, before suffering defeat in Monte-Carlo during the 2023 season.

After Rublev lost their tie at the Laver Cup, he won their Madrid faceoff and will now look to even things up with a win in Toronto.
