Ben Shelton's Girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, Reacts To Toronto Win

On Thursday, 22-year-old American Ben Shelton won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Toronto, beating Karen Khachanov in the final of the National Bank Open.

While Shelton’s girlfriend, US footballer Trinity Rodman, wasn’t in attendance, she shared her live reaction to the win via Instagram.

The wholesome moment was screen recorded and shared with fans by Tennis Channel, as seen below.

Rodman, who recorded a goal in Washington’s 2-1 win over Portland earlier in the week, then followed it up with another post on her Instagram Story, writing:

“I watch you everyday work your ass off. I see everyone who doubts you. You are so inspirational and I’ve never been filled with this much joy. I love you and you are HIM onto the next babe.”

While Rodman was notably with Shelton and his family during the 22-year-old’s Wimbledon run this season, as well as his Mubadala Citi DC Open run late last month, the Washington Spirit’s upcoming NWSL schedule will likely prevent her from attending the Cincinnati Open.

Following a heart-pounding tiebreak in the third set, Ben Shelton made his way over to his player box, where he celebrated the career milestone with his dad.

During the trophy presentation on Tennis Channel, Shelton then went on to thank his family, and his girlfriend, for being by his side throughout this season:

“The joy that I feel today isn’t just because of the win but because of the people I get to spend every day with. The people that I love, the people that love me, the people that will fight for me, have my back.

“My whole extended family, especially my mom, my sister, and my girlfriend, they’ve been with me every single day, even though they haven’t been here in Canada. And I’m just really blessed to have the people I have in my life.”

Shelton Into the Top-10 Following National Bank Open Win

With his run in Toronto, Ben Shelton has now reached a new career-high of No. 6 in the world, putting him just ahead of all-time great Novak Djokovic, and just behind Jack Draper on the ATP rankings.

On top of that, Shelton is also notably up to No. 4 in the ATP Race to Turin.

On the flip side, fellow National Bank Open finalist Karen Khachanov is up to No. 12 in the world on the latest ATP rankings and No. 10 in the world on the ATP live rankings.

Shelton now heads into the Cincinnati Open as the No. 5 seed ahead of his opening-round match on Saturday, where he will meet Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the Round of 64.

In the case of Khachanov, he will enter the Cincinnati Open as the No. 14 seed, with his Round of 64 match set for Saturday against the winner of today’s Sebastian Ofner vs. Valentin Royer match.
