Leeds United boss Daniel Farke gives brutally honest assessment after Millwall defeat

Daniel Farke had no complaints after Leeds United's defeat to in-form Millwall. The Whites squandered the chance to move back into the automatic promotion places after suffering a second Championship defeat of the season.

Japhet Tanganga was the hero for the Lions, scoring the only goal in the 40th minute. The defender steered a shot past Illan Meslier after Jake Cooper cushioned a downward header into his path following a short free kick routine.

Striker Joel Piroe had a goal disallowed for offside just after the hour mark as United huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser. Despite enjoying the lion-share of possession, the Whites failed to break down a strong, well-organised Millwall outfit as their unbeaten record on the road came to an end.

Boss Farke said: "Congratulations to Millwall for excellent defending and efficiency. (They were) More effective than us with their chances.

"Football is efficiency with your chances and no mistakes. They were better than us."

It was the Whites' first defeat since September. Defeat leaves them in third position.

"When you lose a game there is always something you can point to," conceded Farke. "Football can be like this. The most unfair sport in the world. In every sport, there are so many points to play for, the better side wins. In football, one goal can be decisive. Even the defensive side can win a game.

"I am not annoyed at all. (We were) Excellent in the first half. We created more chances around their box than the last four away teams here in total."

Farke said United have to "trust" the match officials over Piroe's disallowed goal. He was left frustrated with how his team dealt with the dead ball situation that led to Millwall's winner.
