US Open 2025: Coco Gauff v Naomi Osaka head-to-head & how to watch their round of 16 encounter live - full schedule

The stage is set for one of the most hyped matches of the 2025 US Open as Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka go head-to-head in the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows on Monday (1 September).

The two tennis stars will battle it out for a quarter-final berth in a repeat of their 2019 confrontation when a 15-year-old Gauff lost to defending champion Osaka.

Osaka, 19 at the time, steamrolled past Gauff in her main-draw debut, winning the third-round match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.

Much has changed since that encounter with Gauff, now considered the favourite, boasting a 3-2 head-to-head win ratio against Osaka. The next year, Gauff had her Grand Slam revenge with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the 2020 Australian Open.

The 21-year-old Gauff also has some Grand Slam title credentials added to her résumé thanks to her 2025 French Open and 2023 US Open victories.

Osaka, in turn, will be desperate to keep her hopes alive of bagging a fifth overall major win and her first since her 2021 Australian Open success.

"To be playing her (Gauff) again after six years, I don't know if that makes me old," said Osaka. "Just to be at this point of my life and to be playing her again, it honestly, for me, feels kind of special."

While Gauff has had Osaka’s number in recent years, their first showdown will serve as motivation for both players for different reasons.
