Premier League-proven star ditches his agents in hope of signing for Manchester United

If intent and desire are what Manchester United have looked for in all their transfer signings this summer, one player has given firm proof of it by ditching his agents entirely to sign with the club.

Manchester United can confidently claim that their summer business so far only consist of players who made it clear they only wanted to come to Old Trafford.

It’s why they could negotiate long and hard for Bryan Mbeumo, and saw Benjamin Sesko snub Newcastle’s more lucrative offer.

Both those efforts were appreciated, and Jason Wilcox noted that theme in all of the transfers so far. Another proven Premier League star has now gone a step further in hopes of signing for Man Utd.

Man Utd dream stalling Dominic Calvert-Lewin decision

Manchester United had a clear stance this summer that they wanted to add proven Premier League quality to an ailing team.

They only broke ranks for Benjamin Sesko, a player they have followed for the last eight years, so he’s also as familiar to them as a Premier League-proven player.

Then comes the “desire to play for Man Utd”, a box that has been ticked by Dominic Calvert-Lewin with a statement move, as per Alan Nixon.

Nixon states on his Patreon that Calvert-Lewin has ditched his agents and formal representatives to handle talks on his own.

He hopes to sign with Man Utd later in the window once the club have sorted out their “star signings”.

Nixon said: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin is doing his own transfer negotiations as he looks for a new club. The former Everton striker is wanted at home and abroad as a free agent, but he is handling the talks on his own.

“Calvert-Lewin has sidelined his agent and is using family members to sort out his future. He still hopes for a deal with Manchester United once they have sorted their ‘star’ signings.”

Replacing Rasmus Hojlund with Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be a shrewd move

Calvert-Lewin has been previously linked to United as a budget option since he is a free agent after leaving Everton this summer.

The question marks over his injury record remain, but the other question mark over his potential wage and signing-on fee due to his free agent status seems to be answered.

If he is so intent on moving to Old Trafford, it is safe to assume that he will do so on palatable terms, which makes him an intriguing option.

Sesko will be the undisputed starter at United, but with Rasmus Hojlund’s fate now sealed, the club risk having Sesko in the same sink-or-swim situation that sank Hojlund.

Calvert-Lewin could be a steady hand as a backup to Sesko. He will arrive with a clarity over his squad role, on a wage within the structure of the club, and allow Amorim to rotate Sesko in his first season in English football.

Calvert-Lewin also knows the league inside out, and he can even pass on some tips to the big Slovenian, since their playing styles are quite similar.

United could do a lot worse to add numbers to their striker ranks than go for a player on a free transfer, desperate for a move, who won’t mind being the backup, and is proven in the league.
