Manchester United have already been active in the summer transfer window as they look for a more positive season in the 2025/26 campaign.

The season just gone was one to forget for United, with a 15th place finish and a loss against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final meaning that there will be no European football at Old Trafford next season.

That could be a blow for the club in the current transfer window. It, however, didn’t stop them completing a move for forward Matheus Cunha, who has signed a five-year-deal with the club.

The Brazilian is not the only new arrival expected at Old Trafford this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to shape his squad ahead of the new campaign. So, MEN Sport have taken a look at a couple of the latest stories doing the rounds over the last 24 hours.

Emiliano Martinez interest

United are the club showing the most interest in a potential transfer for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to reports in Argentina.

TyC Sports claim that the World Cup winner could leave Villa this summer, with United showing the ‘strongest interest. It is however added that there is yet to be an official offer from any club.

It is said that United first made contact with Martinez about a move back in January, but they instead opted to stick with Andre Onana as their first choice goalkeeper. Any deal for Martinez is expected to be expensive due to Villa’s high asking price.

MEN says: "Martinez has proven himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, or even in the world over the last few years. However, his form does seem to have taken a bit of a dip in the season just gone.

"Aston Villa are expected to put a high price on the goalkeeper’s head, and United will have to weigh up if he is worth the price Villa ask. I think that big money would be better spent elsewhere for United, with more value for money signings available in the goalkeeper position."

Viktor Gyokeres ‘contact’

United have made ‘informal contact’ over a potential summer deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to GIVEMESPORT .

The report says that the Sweden international is Ruben Amorim’s number one transfer target in the striking position this summer, with him coming ahead of Liam Delap, who has now completed his move to Chelsea.

It is added that in order to complete any transfer for Gyokeres, who is said to be available for around £60 million, United will need to cash in on at least one big name departure. But Amorim is said to be determined to get his man.

MEN says: "There is no doubt that Gyokeres would bring a goalscoring prowess to United that is needed at Old Trafford. The fact that he knows Amorim, having worked with the manager at Sporting is an added bonus, and the United boss should know how to get the best out of him.

"The lack of European football may make it hard to persuade the player to make the switch, especially with the likes of Arsenal interested. But it would be a major coup for United if they could somehow pull it off."
