At the end of the day, this is a break-up - and they're not always amicable.

When Arne Slot sent Trent Alexander-Arnold on as a substitute at Anfield yesterday, no-one really knew what reaction the 26-year-old would get. Boos? Cheers? Silence?

While it wasn't a deafening chorus of jeers, far from it, there was enough noise around the stadium to indicate a hero's send off is probably not on the cards for Alexander-Arnold when he leaves the club when his contract expires at the end of June - or earlier.

Reds boss Slot told Match of the Day after the game: "Everybody can have their own opinion and you can express it in any way you want to.

"I heard mixed opinions but the only opinion I have is I owe it to the players and fans to try to win a game of football."
