Day 1 of the Canada Super 60 tournament started Wednesday (Oct. 8) at BC Place in Vancouver.

From Oct. 8 to 13, the inaugural Canada Super 60 league will launch in Vancouver in a first for international-level cricket matches played indoors, under lights, here on the West Coast.

Organizers said the six-day event will " feature some of the biggest stars in world cricket — including Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Shoaib Malik, Shakib Al Hasan, and Jason Roy — alongside top Canadian talent."

Super 60 matches last about 90 minutes with each team batting for 10 overs (60 balls).

Amjad Bajwa, president of Cricket Canada, said: “The Canada Super 60 marks one of the most pivotal moments in the history of cricket in Canada. Hosting a global league at BC Place, with both men’s and women’s competitions, puts Canadian cricket on the world stage.

"This platform will transform the way cricket is played, viewed, and celebrated in the country — while giving women’s cricket the right impetus to grow and thrive. We are proud to support this vision and look forward to seeing Canada’s cricket community come alive.”

On the first day of the tournament (Oct. 8), the Toronto Sixers won their first match over the Brampton Blitz by eight wickets, with three balls remaining. The Montreal Royal Tigers won by seven wickets over the Mississauga Masters with eight balls remaining. The Vancouver Kings won by 25 runs over the White Rock Warriors.

Day 2 of the tournament starts at 3 p.m. with the Brampton Blitz taking on the Mississauga Masters.

Nine Surrey-based players will compete for five of the six men's teams including Ravinder Pal Singh (Vancouver Kings), Ali Khan (Mississauga Masters), Harman Bahia, Kareem Sana, Sukhjinder Singh, Ajayveer Hundal (White Rock Warriors), Newab Singh, Shivam Sharma Jr. (Toronto Sixers) and Dilpreet Bajwa (Montreal Royal Tigers). Brampton Blitz will also compete among men, and two women's teams (Vancouver Thunderbirds, Toronto Sixers Women) will be in action.

Canada Super 60 day passes are sold for $29.99 (plus taxes and fees), or $79.99 for all six days. Admission is free for kids under 15 with purchase of an adult ticket on ticketmaster.ca.
