Jamie Carragher thinks Arne Slot played a 'hilarious' trick on Ange Postecoglou before Liverpool vs Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou would have delivered a disappointed team talk to his players after his side suffered a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

Arne Slot defended Postecoglou in his press conference on Friday as he questioned why he was getting slated for playing an entertaining and attacking brand of football.

The Liverpool manager even admitted that he would love for the Spurs tactician to go on and win the UEFA Europa League this season as his exciting style of play merits silverware.

Mohamed Salah was aware of Tottenham’s approach remaining direct and fearless, as he revealed after the contest as the Egyptian winger and his teammates feasted on their defensive frailties.

Tottenham conceded six goals at home in a Premier League game for the first time since 1997 when Chelsea demolished them 6-1 at White Hart Lane.

Arne Slot told he defended Ange Postecoglou for Liverpool to exploit Tottenham’s openness

Carragher felt Slot defended Postecoglou just so that Tottenham set up as openly as they do, allowing Liverpool to have a field day going forward.

The Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports: “That press conference from [Arne] Slot on Friday was hilarious. I mean, people thought he was defending Postecoglou, I don’t believe that for one minute.”

“I actually thought he went too far, it was too obvious, he was desperate for Tottenham to play exactly the same way as they played against Manchester United and they did and Liverpool could have scored 10.

“So, what he said in that press conference, honestly everyone I spoke to, Liverpool supporters, it was was obvious what he was trying to get at.”

Jamie Carragher took to X to hint that Arne Slot tricked Ange Postecoglou after the game as well.

In the aftermath of Tottenham’s heavy defeat to Liverpool, Postecoglou defended his approach.

The Australian said via HaytersTV: “Look, I think I’ve been really, really patient in the last 18 months, sitting up here and answering the same questions over and over again.”

“If people want to change my approach, it’s not going to change. We’re doing it for a reason, we’re doing it because we think it’ll help us be successful. If people don’t understand the circumstances we’re in at the moment and the challenges we have from a team squad perspective, which are as obvious as you want to make them.”

“I get the idea that people think that I should just flick the switch and change and somehow, that would miraculously make us a different team but it is what it is. I’m just going to continue staying focused on trying to build this team to be the team we want and in the interim, we’re going to have to accept that they’re going to be challenges along the way.”

It seems like Ange Postecoglou is convinced that his progressive playing style will eventually pay off and lead Tottenham to becoming the elite team they aspire to.

But against Liverpool, the Lilywhites were anything but that.

As Jamie Carragher stated, the visitors could have scored more than six goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Top managers are always open to adjusting their system and whether Postecoglou makes tactical tweaks will be evident in the near future.
