AS Monaco eye move for Andre Onana after previously targeting former Man Utd goalkeeper

After two error-prone seasons at Manchester United, Andre Onana faces an uncertain future.

There appears to be growing speculation over a new goalkeeper arriving at Carrington this summer, with Andre Onana either facing more competition or becoming a casualty.

Altay Bayindir could leave the club in search of regular football, which is another possibility, but Onana’s struggles throughout the 2024/25 season raise further concerns about whether he is the right man to be United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

United’s stance up until this point remains unclear over whether Onana will be sold or not.

That will only change if an adequate offer is made by another club to sign the Cameroon international, who was involved in a mistake for Tottenham’s goal in the Europa League final defeat back in May.

It has been reported that United are leaning towards keeping Onana. That would come as a shock to some, except one United legend as Edwin van der Sar outlined his support for the stopper.

Onana can’t relax knowing United are being linked with Emiliano Martinez, valued at £40 million, which is costly for a player approaching their mid-30s.

While United are prioritising the attacking positions after announcing a deal to sign Matheus Cunha, it is believed Onana could emerge on Marseille’s radar as their search for a new goalkeeper, as per L’Equipe.

Marseille are not convinced by either Radoslaw Majecki or Philipp Kohn and therefore the goalkeeper position is at the top of their list ahead of the new season.

Many candidates are being considered for the role, including Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic and Onana.

Marseille could make a move for Onana after a difficult spell in the Premier League for the Cameroonian; however, it is understood that they looked at David de Gea before the former United stopper renewed terms with Fiorentina.

Other names include Barcelona’s Marc-Andre-Ter Stegen and Ugurcan Cakir of Trabzonspor.

Goalkeepers linked with moves to Man Utd

It remains to be seen if United are going to sign a first-choice goalkeeper or a back-up option.

In Spain, United have been linked with Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia, who showed fantastic form in the 2024/25 season to warrant interest from Barcelona.

Other targets include Vanja Milinkovic-Savic after impressing in Serie A at Torino.

While Martinez appears to be the biggest target, it would take a sizeable fee to take the World Cup winner away from Aston Villa.

United could also reignite their interest in Zion Suzuki, who has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest prospects at Parma.
