Hugo Ekitike has told Alexander Isak what he wants to hear after completing Liverpool transfer

Liverpool could fit Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike into the same team, with the latter liking playing alongside another striker, as evidenced at Eintracht Frankfurt

Liverpool are still in the market for more signings and believe Alexander Isak would bolster their attack despite securing the signing of Hugo Ekitike this week. The Reds are monitoring developments at Newcastle United after the striker asked to explore a move away from the Tyneside club.

Liverpool are willing to commit the funds necessary for what would have to be a British record transfer. Newcastle planned to pair Ekitike and Isak up front this season after bidding for the France under-21 international.

However, that tantalising prospect appears like it could materialise at Anfield over the coming weeks. Ekitike has addressed playing with a strike partner during his first Liverpoolfc.com interview.

The club described him as a versatile forward and asked whether he feels equally comfortable playing anywhere across the front line. The new signing said: "I mean, I do what the coach asks me to do, but yeah, I like to do everything.

"I can't define myself only as a striker [who likes] to finish: I like to play, I like to be in the game, in the collective part of play, [and] create also. So, I can do both – I can play alone, and I like to play also with another striker, and I think that's what makes me versatile, but you know now in this football you need to adapt."

Ekitike played alongside Omar Marmoush up front for the first half of last season before Manchester City signed the Egypt international. Primarily playing as a partnership, he also, on occasions, started as more of a second striker behind his teammate.

The forward has previously played off the left for France under-21s and his boyhood club, Stade Reims. Isak has also operated out wide, first for his boyhood club, AIK, and then Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle and Real Sociedad.

And Ekitike's comments show the pair could play alongside each other at Liverpool, should Isak eventually opt to make the move from Newcastle.
