Alex Eala confirmed for US Open main draw debut

(UPDATE) FILIPINO tennis hotshot Alex Eala has been officially confirmed at the US Open main draw.

Eala is already on the player’s list of the tournament’s latest update on its website on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old will make her debut at the US Open set from Aug. 18 to Sept. 8.

The final Grand Slam of the year is still in its qualifying stages, where World No. 68 Eala used to be in the previous years before finally breaking through this year.

Eala last saw action at the National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada, late last month, when she yielded to Czech Marketa Vondrousova, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, in the opener.

It was a double black eye for Eala, who sustained a left-shoulder injury in the match.

The injury prevented Eala from participating at the Cincinnati Open and at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico — two tournaments that would have served as perfect buildup for the rising star.

Eala resumed training last week at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain.

After the US Open, Eala will compete at the São Paulo Open, which will run from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14.
