Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has penned a heartfelt message to Luis Diaz after the Colombian completed an $88 million (£66 million) transfer to Bayern Munich earlier this week.

Diaz joined the Reds from FC Porto in January 2022. He initially expressed an interest in moving on around a year ago, but ended up staying at Anfield and helping Liverpool to win the Premier League title under Arne Slot.

But with two years left on his existing contract and a big offer coming in from Germany, Liverpool reluctantly allowed Diaz to leave now. Salah, and the rest of the players, will miss his presence in the locker room a lot.

"Your energy, drive, and passion on the pitch have left a mark that won’t be forgotten," Salah wrote on social media. "We were truly lucky to have you at Liverpool, and it’s been an honour to share part of your journey and success story.

"As a teammate, you were more than reliable — you were inspiring. As a friend, even more so. We all saw the strength it took to keep going through the tough times off the pitch.

"What you went through would’ve broken most, but you came back strong and gave everything for the club. That kind of resilience sets an example for others and earns nothing but respect. Wishing you all the best for what’s next, Lucho."

During his time at Liverpool, Diaz suffered a long-term injury, and his parents were kidnapped in South America. He ended up with 41 goals to his name — plus one that was incorrectly ruled out by the VAR against Spurs.

"I'm very happy, it means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern — they're one of the biggest clubs in the world," Diaz said after signing for the Bundesliga champions.

"I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character. My goal is to win every possible title, and that's what we'll work for every day as a team."

During his unveiling in Munich, Diaz added: "I spoke to Florian Wirtz and he told me that the Bundesliga is very intense, similar to the Premier League, that it was very physical, and the stadiums are always full.

"He also told me that Munich is a very nice city and that I'd enjoy it. He wished me luck, and I thank him for that."

Diaz has played against a couple of his new teammates when they were in the Premier League, and he was asked what it would be like to line up alongside Harry Kane and Michael Olise.

"I'm really looking forward to playing with them, but also with the whole team," he said. "Harry Kane is a great striker with incredible qualities, and he will support me a lot."
