Bruno Fernandes responds to Man United transfer exit proposal after £100m offer

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was linked with a move away from Old Trafford earlier this summer and another attempt to sign him from Saudi Arabia has reportedly failed

Al Nassr have reportedly failed in an attempt to sign Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes this summer.

The Manchester Evening News understands that Fernandes gave serious thought to a move to Al Nassr's Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Hilal earlier this summer. His representative, Miguel Pinho, was in discussions with the Middle Eastern club regarding a potential £100million transfer, and the Reds did not rule out the possibility of letting him go.

News then emerged that Fernandes had opted against the move after discussions with his family. That appears not to have put off Al Nassr, who Sky Sports report made contact through intermediaries in an attempt to reunite him with former Reds teammate and current Portugal colleague Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the report adds that no formal approach to United from Al Nassr, with the Saudi club unsuccessful in their attempt to persuade Fernandes of the move. The Reds skipper explained his decision to stay at M16 in June after admitting he had a chance to leave after over five years at Old Trafford

“There was an opportunity," he said. "The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there.

"They were waiting for me. I spoke to coach [Ruben] Amorim. He asked me not to go.

"Manchester United didn’t want to sell me. They don’t need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen.“

He added: "Al Hilal were very kind. They spoke to my agent. Then I spoke to my wife. She asked: 'What do you want to do?' She always supports my decisions.

"It would have been easy to move there. I know the Portuguese players there very well. But I want to play at the highest level and compete for major titles.

"I can do that, and I still want to. I’m very passionate about football.”

Fernandes has scored 98 goals and provided 86 assists across all competitions for the Reds since joining from Sporting in January 2020. His current contract at United is set to expire in June 2027.
