Real Madrid Femenino: Five years into their journey, their moment of reckoning is here

Real Madrid is a football club synonymous with success.

Their men’s side has been a dominant force in Europe for decades, boasting a long and rich history.

It took until 2019 for them to add a women’s team into their story, heading down the untraditional route of merging with an already existing club.

Independently formed Club Deportivo Tacon would subsequently become the base from which the Spanish club would build, officially completing the move and operating as Madrid from 2020.

Despite settling into Liga F with ease, they have consistently played second fiddle to FC Barcelona, who have developed into arguably the best club in the world.

For the last 18 meetings between the two, the Catalan giants have inflicted defeat on their El Clásico rivals on every single occasion.

On Sunday (23 March), the 19th would finally turn the tide in the favour of Real.

Between that historic victory and being on the brink of a first-ever UEFA Champions League semi-final, is Madrid Femenino finally ready to compete for titles?
