Victoria Park football stadium wins award

Guernsey's purpose-built football stadium has been given an award for best large project on the island.

Victoria Park, which opened in March, was given the honour in recognition of the combination of local suppliers and contractors who helped build the Guernsey Football Association development.

It was designed by Guernsey-based Lovell Ozanne Architects and was recognised at the Guernsey Property and Construction Awards on Thursday.

"Fittingly for a football facility, it was a real team effort to make it happen and we're proud of the result of that close collaboration," said Andrew Merrett, director at the architects.

Mr Merrett said the £10m development was delivered in partnership with local contractors and stakeholders and served as a central hub for community sport and social engagement.

"It was clear from the outset when working on Victoria Park that this facility was going to play a vital role in Guernsey's sporting present and future. The design and construction needed to reflect that," he added.

A further Lovell Ozanne-designed development - Plaza House at Admiral Park - won the sustainability award at the event.

Plaza House was Guernsey's first BREEAM-rated building, meaning it met the highest standards in sustainable design, a spokesperson for Lovell Ozanne said.

It incorporated advanced energy systems, water conversion strategies and low-carbon transport infrastructure, they added.

Mr Merrett said the awards were "a reflection of our team's dedication to creating architecture that is both purposeful and enduring".

"We're proud to contribute to Guernsey's evolving built environment and grateful to our clients and collaborators for their trust and partnership," he added.
