The men’s Wimbledon final will feature a Roland Garros rematch between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz to make his third consecutive final at the All England Club, while Sinner overcame Novak Djokovic to advance to the championship match in SW19 for the very first time.It will be the second clash between the two stars in a Grand Slam final, following their five-set thriller at the French Open, which lasted five hours and 29 minutes. The Spaniard had to come back from two sets down to defeat the Italian in Paris, and will hope for a better start on Sunday en route to a Wimbledon three-peat.It will be by far the biggest test of the fortnight for Alcaraz, who former Australian Open runner-up John Lloyd said has to do three things against Sinner to win the title once more.Photo by Andy Cheung/Getty ImagesJohn Lloyd says what Carlos Alcaraz needs to do against Jannik SinnerSpeaking on BBC ahead of the final, Lloyd said of the matchup between them: “It’s such a nice contrast, isn’t it?“You’ve got probably the best striker of the ball in Sinner, who hits the ball as flat as anybody from both wings, just seeks that ball and crushes it over and over again, so precise.”“And then you’ve got Alcaraz, who can absorb pace better than anybody else, and his movement is better, and he’s a little bit more creative.”“But he has to do all those things tomorrow to beat Sinner, who is just so precise in everything he does. So you’ve got the contrast even in personalities on the court. It’s a wonderful matchup.”More Tennis News“We’re gonna see them so many times in the next few years. It’s a great rivalry.”Photo by Tim Clayton/Getty ImagesFormer Wimbledon semi-finalist Todd Woodbridge added: “Well, you know what’s interesting, he’s [Alcaraz] got the slice backhand, and he’s got the firm, hard one that he can get deep in the court, and he’s got the short one.“So he has the ability to bring the ball into a part of the court where Sinner has to do something else.“Now, Sinner doesn’t miss shots, but if you recall yesterday against Novak Djokovic, Novak had no time to breathe.“He’d get one back and then bang, it’s hard into the other corner. Nobody hits as big off both wings if the ball’s sitting up above hip height as Sinner does.“But Alcaraz can get the ball into another part of the court to Sinner. And that’s been the point of difference in their matches so far this year.”Photo by Foto Olimpik/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesThe last time Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner met on grassIn the 12 meetings they have had at tour-level events, Sinner and Alcaraz have met just once before on grass. The sole bout on the surface came in the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2022, in what was their first match against each other at a Grand Slam.Sinner, seeded 10th at the time, got off to a hot start to the match, taking the first two sets 6-1, 6-4.Despite Alcaraz taking the third set in a tiebreak, it was his opponent who advanced to the next round, where he lost to Djokovic.
