Viktor Gyokeres is yet to resolve his future amid ongoing negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting Clube de Portugal over the striker.

However, Manchester United could emerge as a potential alternative, offering him a transfer lifeline.

Recent reports suggest that talks between Arsenal and the Portuguese club have been challenging, with President Frederico Varandas reportedly standing firm on his €70million (£60million) valuation of the Swedish forward.

The gap between Gyokeres' valuation and Arsenal’s offer is reportedly around €5million (£4m). According to The Mirror, who have cited reports from Portugal, Arsenal are prepared to walk away from negotiations with the striker and his representatives, fearing the deal may fall through.

However, a new update could offer a glimmer of hope for the United hierarchy.

Here, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest news surrounding Gyokeres.

Man United could offer transfer lifeline

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has cited Ben Jacobs, who claimed that the door at United has 'never closed' for the Sweden international - even though reports have made clear his apparent desire to join Arsenal.

Although he may be reluctant to move to Old Trafford due to the lack of European football, reports suggest his representatives are aware that a deal could still be salvaged through the Reds.

While president Varandas has remained firm in resisting Arsenal's advances, United have a potential advantage in the form of Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese coach is considered a key figure in facilitating the move and his strong relationship with Varandas and Sporting will likely to play a significant role.

Gyokeres' admiration for Amorim

The No. 9 has openly expressed his admiration for the Reds’ head coach, stemming from their time together at Sporting.

"We won two championships in a row, for the first time in 71 years. It's an incredible achievement, and of course, Ruben Amorim played a big role in that," the striker told France Football.

"I can't thank him enough. The style of play we had under his orders suited me perfectly."

Pre-season

Gyokeres is expected to report for pre-season training on Friday, July 11, after being granted a few extra days by the club. However, reports from Portugal suggest that the 26-year-old does not intend to return, as he continues to push for a move away.

On Thursday, A Bola reported: "Sporting are no longer waiting for the goalscorer to return, and only a last-minute U-turn could make the Swede change his mind and go to the training camp in the Algarve.

Other clubs monitoring the situation

The Sun reports that Gyokeres is open to a 'worst-case scenario' loan move for the upcoming season. Juventus and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce are reportedly keeping tabs on the striker's situation.
