Highly renowned strength and conditioning coach appointed to role with Limerick hurling academy

HIGHLY renowned strength and conditioning coach Mikey Kiely has been appointed to a new role with the Limerick hurling academy. He will officially take up his position overseeing the academy next week.

Kiely previously served as strength and conditioning coach with the Limerick senior hurling backroom team in 2020 and 2021, during which John Kiely’s side claimed back-to-back All-Ireland titles.

The Ballybrown native has also worked as head of coaching and development with the Limerick hurling academy from 2015 to 2019. In that time, he was part of the Shannonsiders’ minor backroom team that reached the 2016 All-Ireland final, and later contributed to the Limerick U21 set-up that captured the All-Ireland crown in 2017.

In recent years, Kiely has broadened his experience with professional rugby outfits, working with Ulster during the 2021/2022 season before spending the past three years as strength and conditioning coach with Connacht.

Kiely has also featured for his club Ballybrown throughout the Limerick senior hurling championship. It has been a mixed campaign for Ballybrown in the Limerick SHC. The Clarina based club have recorded a victory over Ahane and suffered a defeat to Na Piarsaigh.
