Savinho and Jeremy Doku react to Claudio Echeverri’s passionate Man City message

Savinho and Jeremy Doku are among the Man City players that have reacted to a new message from Claudio Echeverri on social media.

Echeverri officially joined City in January 2024 from boyhood club River Plate, after Football Insider had revealed a month earlier that Pep Guardiola’s side were closing in on the Argentina youth international’s signature.

He rejoined River on loan upon his arrival in Manchester, however, and Football Insider revealed in September that Echeverri was finally set to join-up with his new City teammates in January, which he soon did as he went in Guardiola’s squad for the second-half of the last campaign.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder did not make much of an impact at the Etihad Stadium over the last few months, but he is certainly doing his best to prove himself worthy of more chances next season, however, and his latest exploits may have thrusted him further into Guardiola’s plans for 2025/26.

Claudio Echeverri’s scores stunning first Man City strike

City continued their stellar start to their defence of the Club World Cup on Monday (23 June) as they thrashed Al-Ain 6-0 in Atlanta in their second group game.

Echeverri was handed his first competitive start by Guardiola against their Emirati opponents, and he helped them on their way to victory with a brilliant maiden City strike from a free-kick in the 27th minute to make it 2-0.

Echeverri took to Instagram in the aftermath of the win, posting images of his goal and celebration in motion next to a passionate caption, saying: “Primera titularidad primer gol” which translates to “First start, first goal” in English, with blue heart, flexed bicep and shushing emojis alongside his words.

The 19-year-old’s message was reacted with support from a number of his City teammates, with Doku commenting three fire emojis, Savinho saying: “Joga muito mlk,” which translates to “He’s a great player,” and Phil Foden, Omar Marmoush, Josko Gvardiol and Matheus Nunes among those who liked his post.

Echeverri must shine to prove himself to Guardiola

Football Insider verdict

There is an obvious possibility that Echeverri could end up back out on loan this summer, given his age, lack of experience and City’s title aspirations, but his showing against Al-Ain was a positive sign for his chances of staying at the club ahead of next season.

Boss Guardiola was full of praise for the Argentina youth international after the game, despite the fact he was forced off at half-time with an ankle injury, calling him “an incredible player” and insisting that his maiden goal for the club was “fantastic.”

At 19-years-old he is clearly a huge talent, but City have an abundance of attacking options at the minute, especially after Rayan Cherki recently joined the club from Lyon for an initial £30.5million.

He will need to continue in this strong vein of form if he is to be given a chance by Guardiola in 2025/26, and if he keeps on impressing, City’s desire to compete on all fronts again next term could mean he is handed an opportunity to be a key player in cup competitions and Europe.
