Pundit has a theory about why Burnley are signing 'superb' Kyle Walker from Man City

Kyle Walker has completed his move from Manchester City to Burnley.

It was reported on Friday that there was an agreement in place for Walker to join Burnley for free; however, Man City would receive £5m for the transfer throughout the 25/26 season, should the 35-year-old play in 75% of the Clarets’ matches in addition to whether Scott Parker’s side are relegated or not.

Man City confirmed on Saturday that their legendary full-back has officially left the club, signing a two-year contract at Turf Moor, where the Englishman will look to add to his incredible career in the English top flight.

The transfer has come as a surprise to many in the football world, but talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino shares why Burnley have made a move for the 35-year-old defender.

Scott Parker wants Kyle Walker’s Premier League experience

Many football fans will be looking at the transfer of Walker to Burnley in one of two ways: some believe the defender has dropped below his level, while others are questioning why the Clarets have signed a veteran star who is past his best.

Man City fans are happy to see Walker leave the Etihad Stadium after what happened over the last year, and speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino has shared why he thinks Burnley have brought the 35-year-old to Turf Moor.

“I might look at it this way. I might go, do you know what, Burnley were fantastic, and okay, it was in the Championship last year. The setup of the team was superb, about how to stop teams scoring against them,” the pundit said.

“I think he’s (Scott Parker) just gone, ‘I want to get someone through the door that’s been around the Premier League and done a great job for a number of seasons. He’s not quite the player he was, but if he is needed, I can call upon him’.

“Like I said, Tuanzebe is a good player, but he has a hell of a lot of injuries for his career, and if he’s looking at the right back area, just a little bit, and maybe play different formation, maybe play three at the back. This is how I am looking at it.”

Parker has always been a fan of Walker’s talent, going back to their days together at Tottenham, and the English coach knows exactly how he plans to use the right-back ahead of Burnley’s return to the Premier League.

Kyle Walker’s record against Manchester City

By completing his move to Burnley, Walker will have the unusual experience of having to play against Man City this season, having spent the last eight years with the Manchester club.

Before moving to the Etihad Stadium from Tottenham in 2017, the right-back did not have the best record against City, with the 35-year-old facing the Premier League giants on 10 occasions, winning four, drawing one, and losing the remaining five.

That record is likely to get worse throughout the 25/26 campaign, with the majority of Man City fans expecting at least two more losses to be added to this record.
