The Michigan Wolverines landed a monster commitment in the 2026 class on Tuesday in the form of five-star running back Savion Hiter. The No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1 ranked running back in the class chose the Wolverines over Tennessee, Georgia and Ohio State at a ceremony at his high school on Tuesday morning. The 5-foot-11.5, 200-pounder has been compared to Omarion Hampton, TreVeyon Henderson and Bijan Robinson by industry experts — not bad running backs to be compared to if you ask me.His future teammate — Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood — was pretty excited to hear the news that Hiter had committed to the Wolverines. Not only is that another five-star offensive playmaker to be paired up with in Ann Arbor, but this news dropped on Underwood’s 18th birthday. He reacted to the commitment on Instagram.Underwood is among the most talented players on the Michigan roster, and Hiter will be right there with him as soon as he steps foot on campus. He is a do-it-all player at his position and was undoubtedly the top running back in this class. Underwood reacting the way he did just goes to show that wins on the recruiting trail are huge for the short-term and long-term future of any college football program.Hiter is Michigan’s highest ranked recruit in the 2026 class, as he is just ahead of five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows (No. 29). The Wolverines are in the Top-10 of the 2026 class rankings after this commitment and have stockpiled talent at key positions. Pairing the top quarterback in 2025 with the top running back in 2026 creates the kind of foundation that national title contenders are built on and further proves that Sherrone Moore and company aren’t screwing around when it comes to acquiring talent.Hiter also fits the mold of the versatile, dynamic running back that Michigan has leaned on over the last few years. His size, power and explosiveness should allow him to contribute very early in his career, while his skillset complements Michigan’s “smash” mentality.
