Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury during the third Test vs England at Lord's

Indian captain Shubman Gill has provided a crucial update on Rishabh Pant’s injury. The Indian vice-captain injured the tip of his fingers while keeping to Jasprit Bumrah on the first day of the third Test at Lord’s. Though he didn’t keep wickets in the game since getting injured in the 36th over, he batted in both innings, scoring 74 and 9, respectively. His dismissal in the chase of 194 on the final day turned out to be a turning point for India as they lost the game by 22 runs.

The teams will now go to Manchester for the fourth Test, which begins on July 23. Captain Gill believes that Pant will be good to go for the next match as his scans didn’t show anything major.

“Rishabh went for scans, and there’s no major injury. So he should be fine for the next Test," Gill told the media on Monday in London.

Despite copping a blow on his finger, Pant pushed his limits to be batting ready. On Day 2 of the Test, he spent close to 25 minutes in the nets with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. He also took throwdowns for about 15 minutes, often seen talking to himself between deliveries. The pain was visible on his face, but so was the determination to stand up for his team.

He mustered 74 in the first innings but managed just 9 in the second. Later, Ravindra Jadeja and India’s lower order fought valiantly to script what could have been a historic escape, but fell agonisingly short as England clinched a thrilling 22-run win.

Chasing a modest 193, India looked down and out at 112 for 8, but Jadeja stood tall with an unbeaten 61 off 181 balls. With gritty support from Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54) and Mohammed Siraj (4 off 30), he dragged the game deep, igniting hope in the Indian camp.

However, on a pitch full of tricks and tension, the final moments didn’t go India’s way. Siraj, showing characteristic determination, saw his forward defence off Shoaib Bashir trickle back onto his stumps, leaving him on his knees in disbelief and India all out for 170.
