Report: Evan Ferguson Could Snub Roma If Celtic Make Move

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson looks set for a loan move to Roma, but reports suggest the deal may not be as cut and dried as first thought.

The Serie A club are believed to be in advanced talks over a season-long agreement, with Roma prepared to pay the 20-year-old’s full salary, reportedly around €1.8 million. Ferguson is looking to get his career back on track after a frustrating campaign in England.

The Ireland international found the net just once in the Premier League last season and failed to impress during a short loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the campaign. A fresh start in Italy could offer valuable minutes at a high level, but it’s not the only option on the table. Ferguson had previously been linked with a temporary switch to Celtic, and those rumours have resurfaced this weekend.

According to The Sunday Times, the striker could reconsider his move to Roma if Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers chooses to reignite interest. The report suggests Ferguson may have second thoughts about heading to Italy should an offer from Glasgow materialise.

Rodgers has a track record of working well with young players, and Celtic would offer a platform of regular football, European football, and a competitive domestic schedule, all attractive elements for a player looking to find rhythm again.

Celtic have yet to make a move this summer for the Brighton man, but the door doesn’t appear to be completely closed.

The prospect of leading the line at a club with such stature, alongside the opportunity to work under Rodgers, could prompt Ferguson to delay committing to Roma.
