Liverpool handed new Alexander Isak valuation with $17M saving amid Newcastle drama

With just three days to go until the Premier League season kicks off, Liverpool finds itself embroiled in one of the most heated transfer dramas of the summer. The future of Alexander Isak, whether he will make a move or remain at Newcastle United, remains uncertain as the September 1 deadline looms.

Liverpool made a formal offer for Isak nearly a fortnight ago, a hefty $149 million (£110M) bid that was promptly turned down by its rival. Since then, the reigning Premier League champions have not followed up, and Isak has been instructed to steer clear of Eddie Howe's first-team training sessions.

The situation is fraught with tension, as many believe Newcastle will only let Isak go for a significant British-record transfer fee.

In the midst of all this, the CIES Football Observatory has recently updated its estimated transfer values for players worldwide, including Isak.

This Switzerland-based study uses a statistical model to estimate a player's value, taking into account factors such as performance, age, contract duration, international status, and the level at which they play.

According to their calculations, Liverpool target Isak is worth a maximum of €113M ($132M).

This figure is around $17M less than the initial offer that Liverpool had rejected earlier this month.

Furthermore, the latest estimate from CIES suggests a slight decrease in Isak's top estimated value. Last month, the same study put the figure at €114M ($133M).

While $1M might seem insignificant in the grand scheme of a deal potentially exceeding $149M, this could be the beginning of a slippery slope for Newcastle.

Taking into account player performance before any transfer is considered, the Magpies could ultimately lose millions if Isak genuinely has no desire to train or play for the club anymore. This is reportedly the ultimatum the 25-year-old has given Newcastle, even if it resists selling him.

Adding to the drama, Isak has also allegedly listed his north-east property for rent, indicating he has no plans to stay.

The summer transfer window shuts on Monday, September 1 and doesn't reopen until the winter on Thursday, January 1, 2026. By then, Isak would have missed more than half of the forthcoming Premier League season, most of the Champions League's league phase, and the early rounds of the Carabao Cup as well.
