The Indian women's cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur scripted history on Sunday by winning the country's first ICC Women's World Cup title. The victory marks a new and important chapter for women's cricket in India, who in recent years have witnessed some positivity in terms of administration. The match fee for both men's and women's team is equivalent and BCCI has even launched an IPL-esque Women's Premier League (WPL).

While the nation is rejoicing the historic feat, many have dug past comments by influential figures in Indian cricket ecosystem, which are distasteful in nature.

One such remark by N Srinivasan, who has previously served as the BCCI president, has gone viral on social media, leading to massive criticism. And now an old interaction of former India captain Sourav Ganguly with ABP ANANDA is doing rounds on social media for similar reason.

Fans have also expressed shock considering Ganguly's stature. The former India skipper is one of the most celebrated names in Indian cricket fraternity and has served as the BCCI president in the past.

In the clip going viral, Ganguly is asked by the host about his reaction if his daughter, Sana, expresses interest in becoming a cricketer. To which, Ganguly says "I'll tell her not to because women are not required to play cricket."

The video is a small chunk from a panel discussion featuring Ganguly with musical artists and actors, during which they discuss Sachin Tendulkar's illustrious career as an Indian cricketer. The particular remark was made by Ganguly while he was discussing the pressure Arjun Tendulkar, Sachin's son, has to deal with because of his father's reputation. It was then the host interrupted and asked for a reaction if Sana showed interest in playing cricket.

The video dates back to November 14, 2013 as mentioned on the ABP ANANDA YouTube channel. As the discussion continued around Arjun, the host once again expressed interest in Sana's willingness to play cricket. Ganguly, however, clarified that she was not interested in becoming a cricketer. He then also informed that when he used to play in the IPL, she frequently used to attend matches from the stadium, which also gradually declined.

He added: "There is a difference between a boy and a girl. The interests are different. She does a lot of other stuff but academics is must for me."

Menwhile, Ganguly also joined the bandwagon in wishing the women's team after their historic win. "What an achievement by the girls .. they have come a long way in the last 6 yrs . So proud of them ..world champions," wrote.
