Bojan Miovski meets Aberdeen fury head on with trophy claim as Rangers star wants raging fans to know one thing

Former Aberdeen ace Bojan Miovski admits he had to look out for No1 when the call came from Rangers.

And now the new Ibrox icon is setting his sights on first place in the title race too.

Images showing the Macedonian pulling on a blue jersey have been like a red rag to a bull for his once-adoring Pittodrie public.

A social media clip showing one Dons diehard tearing his jersey to shreds with a knife even went viral over the weekend.

But while Miovski will always appreciate the way the Reds support took him to their hearts, he made clear his loyalties will always lie with the loved ones he now hopes to have set up for life with his big-bucks Rangers switch.

The 26-year-old was hurled in for an immediate debut in Sunday’s Old Firm clash just 24 hours after touching down in Glasgow following the completion of his move from Girona for an initial £2.6million.

The 0-0 draw was good enough to stop the haemorrhaging of goals that had left Russell Martin fighting for his managerial life in Glasgow.

But Rangers’ title aspirations remain very much on life support having handed the Hoops a six-point head start only four games into the season.

Mivoski, however, hopes his arrival can act as an adrenalin shot for a team desperately short on attacking threat.

Asked if he realised he might be upsetting his old club’s supporters by joining their bitter Glasgow rivals, he said: "I always respect Aberdeen.

"I had a great time there, but I need to make a decision for me and my family.

“I’ve come here to help the team, to score goals, of course, and to win trophies because in this team we need to always fight for the trophies.

"Here if you don't win trophies, it is a disappointing season for everyone.

"So I know that there is a lot of pressure here.

“Can we do that this season? Yeah, of course, this is why I came.

"So I have big ambitions and the club has big ambitions, so I'm here to help the team.”

Expectations levels at Ibrox soared this summer after the club’s £75million US takeover.

But furious calls for Martin’s head have come crashing down on the manager in the wake of a disastrous start to the season.

Four straight Premiership draws mean this is the Light Blues’ worst start to a league campaign since 1983 while they six-goal battering from Brugge in the Champions League playoffs equals the club’s heaviest ever beatings.

But Miovski reckons he’s joined a squad that are lined up square behind the boss.

Asked for his thoughts on the title race he has now joined, he said: "It's too early to say.

"It's only four games in the league. So there are still a lot of games to play.

"So of course, we are here, it's no big difference.

"To be honest, I didn't read social media.

"I am a player. I spoke with the coach, he had a great feeling about me.

"He already knew me from two, three years ago, so of course, we are all together as a team and yes, we are winning together, we are losing together, so we are a team.”

Miovski earned himself hero status in Aberdeen by netting 44 strikes over a two-year period.

And that glut of goals also won him a dream £6.5million switch to La Liga.

Things, though, didn’t go quite so well in Spain as he found the back of the net just four times.

But Miovski now hopes to pick up where he left off at Pittodrie.

However, with Gers set to further strengthen their squad today with the £8million signing of Everton striker Youssef Chermiti, he knows his name will not be inked permanently on Martin’s team-sheet.

He said: "If you perform well, you will play, if you don't well... it's simple.

“But I’m glad to be here. It was a busy three, four days for me.

"I was in Paris to sort my visa then there was the travellin, so it was a crazy week for me - but I'm happy that I'm here, to make my debut yesterday.

“I think we show good character from the team and we will just get better and better.

"I didn't have a great time in Girona but I didn't want to move [on loan] just to move away from there.

"I wanted a project to keep going in my career and Rangers was a great project for me, to come and play here.

"Girona had a very hard season in Spain.

"We were almost relegated, we didn't play good football. I think as a team we were disappointing. We had a really bad season.

"I played only 20 percent of the games in all competitions. We didn't get another striker, we didn't get the right service, and I think we struggled on this point. So I move forward.

“But I had a great pre-season, to be honest.

"I played some games in Girona, and I feel good. It’s only been the last five or six days that for me was difficult because I needed to sort my visa, and I was travelling to Paris and to do the medical there.

"I only arrived on Saturday from the airport and went straight to training.

"It was hard, but I gave my best and I feel that as a team, we can be better and better because we showed that we are a team.”

Miovski felt he had won his team a penalty just minutes into Saturday’s derby battle but saw his claims waved away by referee Don Robertson.

He said: "To be honest, I haven’t checked the video but I feel that he touched me on my right leg.

"So this is why I fell down because I think I was in front of him, so he didn't see me because I came from behind him.

"But it is the referee who decides and we move forward.”
