PORVORIM: Chandigarh’s batters faltered as Goa asserted firm control over their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B encounter at the Goa Cricket Association Academy ground, here, on Friday.

After being dismissed for just 137 in their first innings, Chandigarh were struggling again at 159 for 3 in 40 overs at the close of play, still trailing Goa’s imposing 566 all out.

Chandigarh’s first innings lasted a mere 53.3 overs as the side failed to withstand the precision of Goa’s disciplined attack. Jagjit Singh Sandhu top-scored with 31, but the rest of the batting order crumbled under sustained pressure. Goa’s bowlers were relentless — Darshan Mishal (3 for 31) and Lalit Yadav (3 for 17) led the demolition with tight, probing spells that ensured Chandigarh’s early collapse.

When Chandigarh returned to bat in their second innings, they once again struggled to contain the momentum of the hosts. At stumps, the visitors stood at 159 for 3 after 40 overs, with Arjun Azad anchoring the innings on a resilient 76 not out and AK Kaushik providing steady support on 38 not out.

With a 270-run lead and all departments firing, Goa remain firmly on top.

On Thursday, Goa’s Abhinav Tejrana made history with a stunning double century on his first-class debut as the State side ended Day 2 with a commanding total of 566 all out.

Batting at No. 3, Tejrana had already impressed on Day 1 with an unbeaten 130. On Day 2, he added 70 more runs, reaching 205 from 320 deliveries, laced with 21 fours and four sixes.

At stumps, Chandigarh were 34 for 1 in eight overs, with Arjun Azad and captain Manan Vohra at the crease.
