The advice Neil Warnock gave to new Leeds United star Lukas Nmecha after he missed a sitter at Middlesbrough

Leeds United confirmed the surprise signing of free agent Lukas Nmecha on Sunday.

Out of nowhere, Leeds announced the free transfer of former Wolfsburg striker Nmecha, in what was a proper old-school surprise.

It’s safe to say Nmecha’s arrival was out of the blue, with Daniel Farke confirming the first deal of the summer.

Positive signs from this transfer show the 49ers’ quick work in getting the deal sorted, as the 26-year-old looks to be an intriguing arrival.

The German began his career in England with Man City, and even crossed paths with former Whites boss Neil Warnock.

Neil Warnock’s advice to Leeds United star Lukas Nmecha

Fans will be thrilled at a striker coming through the door as it’s a position seen as a ‘priority’ for the 49ers.

Despite the arrival of a new forward, Nmecha will be joined by another striker this window, as real ambition is being shown.

The German has had a topsy-turvy career path, as after his start at City, he experienced loans with Preston North End and Middlesbrough.

This led him to solid stints at Anderlecht and Wolfsburg, but it was back in England where he really struggled.

His time at Boro was unsatisfying to say the least, but under Warnock, Nmecha missed a sitter against QPR in a 1-0 loss.

Speaking after the game in a post-match press conference, the former Leeds manager offered some advice to the German.

“The chance Lukas had, he put every one of them away in training this week,” Warnock said.

“But he just flashed at it, and I think it just comes down to confidence. Football is cruel and you get kicked in the teeth now and again, but you have to keep fighting.”

Leeds star Nmecha struggled in England but proved his worth elsewhere

His time in England was unfortunate, and for Leeds fans’ sake, they hope it’s not repeated.

Although he left Wolfsburg on a free, he did show positive signs and proved his capabilities as a striker.

Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Nmecha, as he can still live up to the promise he’s shown before.

At the EURO U21 tournament in 2021, the German ended the tournament as the golden boot winner, scoring four goals.

If Nmecha can hit the ground running, he’s got every chance of replicating his fortunes at Leeds.
