Iga Swiatek defied the odds to win Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

The Pole entered the grass court Grand Slam after reaching her first final of the surface at the Bad Homburg Open.

Swiatek then stormed through the field at Wimbledon, losing just one set on the way to victory.

She produced the most dominant Open Era performance in a final at SW19 as Swiatek crushed Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to lift the Venus Rosewater dish, her first title since the 2024 French Open.

Iga Swiatek used her phone straight after winning Wimbledon because she wanted to ‘joke with her team’

It took just 57 minutes to determine the 2025 women’s Wimbledon champion.

Iga Swiatek won her last three sets without losing a game, dating back to the second set of her semi-final against Belinda Bencic.

The Pole played with a level of freedom and aggression that has been lacking from her previous Wimbledon campaigns, and she was overjoyed with her latest achievement to the point that she used her phone straight after the match.

Explaining why, Swiatek said: “I was checking, I don’t know if I should say, but my speech! There are so many emotions that it’s good to have it written down.

“Honestly I got so many messages that I have not even replied to even five percent of it. My phone was blowing up! But I just wanted to talk to the team. I think I joked on our group chat.”

Iga Swiatek admits being surprised that she won Wimbledon

Prior to 2025 Swiatek had not come close to winning Wimbledon.

She has reached the quarter-finals on just one occasion and she did not feel entirely comfortable on the grass.

Now she has won her first grass court title, ending a 13-month championship drought, and even she admitted it came as a shock.

“I’ve got to say I have to get used to this idea. I never even dreamt of winning Wimbledon,” Swiatek said. “As most of you know I was called a clay court specialist for most of the years of my career.

“So winning on grass for sure feels just super special and it’s a bit of a surprise for me as well. So I’m going to for sure spend the next days just enjoying it, celebrating it, and I need some time to soak everything in.”
