Marius Marin to Commit 2 or more Fouls

A serial fouler at club level for Serie B side Pisa, Marius Marin usually brings the same sort of energy to the international scene and the tough-tackling midfielder has already committed four fouls at Euro 2024. The 25-year-old committed three of those in one shin-splintering session against Belgium and Marin could be just as heavily involved against another continental big-hitter on Tuesday.

The anchorman clocked at least one foul in nine of his last 14 competitive runouts for Romania and he gave away at least two free kicks in seven of the same contests. Marin is sitting on a yellow card and will be walking a suspension tightrope against the Netherlands, though he isn’t expected to dial back on the ferocity of his tackles and a minimum of two fouls should be in range for the destroyer again.

Virgil van Dijk to Commit 1 or more Fouls

Virgil van Dijk’s reputation is taking a bit of a clattering at Euro 2024 and the 32-year-old centre-half has looked several levels below his imperious best for the Netherlands so far. Van Dijk committed fouls at a rate of just 0.60 times per game for Liverpool in last season’s Premier League, though the out-of-sorts Oranje skipper has been committing 2.00 fouls per appearances at the Euros.

In the Netherlands’ 2-3 defeat to Austria last week, van Dijk was visibly rattled for large swathes of the contest and that seemed to affect the timing of his tackles. The wobbly centre-back committed three fouls against the Austrians and van Dijk might be drawn into more awkward situations by a Romanian frontline that has already shown an aptitude for pulling backlines apart. Look for van Dijk to commit at least one foul for the fourth game running at Euro 2024.

Cody Gakpo to have 2 or more Shots on Target

Cody Gakpo is the Netherlands’ leading marksman at Euro 2024 with two goals and the 25-year-old has also racked up twice as many shots on target (four) as the next best Oranje performer in that regard (Memphis Depay – two).

Gakpo has been setting the standards for accuracy for the Dutch, launching 57.1% of his seven total strikes on target overall and the wide attacker could be a prominent market performer again on Tuesday.

Of the teams that secured qualification from the group stage at Euro 2024, only Georgia conceded more shots (71) than Romania (46) and the Tricolorii also allowed their opponents to muster an average of 5.00 shots on target against them per group game. Those figures suggest we should expect Gakpo to have opportunities to let loose against a deeply seated Romanian defence in Munich and at least another two attempts on target could be in the works for the Liverpool forward.

Memphis Depay to be Fouled 1 or more Times

The aforementioned Cody Gakpo and his foil in attack, Memphis Depay, have been the Netherlands’ most-fouled players at Euro 2024. Both forwards have had their ankles clipped six times across three fixtures at the tournament so far. Depay was fouled twice by Polish markers on matchday one, once by the French on matchday two and a further three times by his Austrian antagonists last week, and the 30-year-old could come in for more rough treatment in Munich.

Depay is reliably cool in possession and his quick feet and silky close control can make him a magnet for fouls and mistimed challenges. On Tuesday, several combative Romanian players will be patrolling the spaces that Depay likes to explore, including the no-nonsense Marko Marin, so expect the streetwise 95-times capped international to draw at least one foul again.
