Aryna Sabalenka admits the reason why she keeps losing in the latter stages of Grand Slam tournaments this season

Aryna Sabalenka’s Wimbledon campaign has come to an end in the semi-final after losing to Amanda Anisimova.

Sabalenka was defeated by Anisimova 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, bowing out in the latter stages of a Grand Slam yet again in 2025.

The Belarusian lost in the final of both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and has now exited the Wimbledon championships in the final four.

As her search for a fourth major title continues, Sabalenka says there’s something that has been holding her back at the biggest tournaments this season.

Aryna Sabalenka states what she needs to do at the US Open

In her post-match press conference, Sabalenka said: “I think in these matches I just have to constantly remind myself how strong I am, and that I have to be the brave one.

“I have to go for my shots, I don’t have to stop my arms. I have to be confident in my shots, in my decisions, and just trust myself.

“It seems like in all of these three tough defeats in the Slams, for me, I wasn’t trusting myself.

“And every time that I remind myself ‘you have to trust’, ‘you can do literally anything on the court, every time I show my best tennis.

“So I think maybe with the US Open left, I just have to trust myself and go for it.”

Aryna Sabalenka’s 2025 Grand Slam defeats

Sabalenka began her season in pursuit of a three-peat at the Australian Open, having won back-to-back titles in Melbourne in 2023 and 2024.

She reached the final, where she met Madison Keys, who defeated her over three sets to clinch a maiden Grand Slam title.

The world number one then entered the French Open, where, after knocking out four-time champion Iga Swiatek in the semi-final, she faced Coco Gauff for the title.

After winning the first set, the match slipped away from her, and Gauff emerged victorious in Paris.

Looking ahead to the US Open, where she is the defending champion, Sabalenka will hope to finally add to her major tally in 2025 following a season of near-misses.
