The last Grand Slam of the calendar year is right around the corner.

The sport’s biggest stars, including Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, will begin their US Open campaigns from August 24 in hopes of lifting a major trophy at the end of the fortnight.

Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka will be hoping for repeat successes in 2025, after they won the US Open Men’s and Women’s singles in 2024.

Martina Navratilova, who won four US Open Ladies’ Singles title during her playing career, has made her predictions for this year’s tournament.

Navratilova, who recently discussed Emma Raducanu’s chances of a strong US Open run, has made her picks.

Martina Navratilova predicts that Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek will win the US Open

Martina Navratilova has predicted there will be a repeat of what happened at Wimbledon this year.

Jannik Sinner won his first Men’s Singles title at Wimbledon, defeating great rival Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek demolished Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0 to win her first Wimbledon Ladies Singles title and her first silverware at the tournament since winning the Girl’s Singles title in 2018.

Navratilova, who made her predictions on Sky Sports, said: “Jannik Sinner plays his best on the hard court, and after his win at Wimbledon I think he will be so confident. It will be hard for anyone to beat him.

“The Wimbledon win and the way she just conducted herself the whole tournament does mean that the old Iga is back.”

Swiatek last won the US Open in 2021: her second Grand Slam title. She has gone on to win another four major titles since then.

Sinner will be hoping to retain his title in 2025 after defeating Taylor Fritz in the 2024 US Open Men’s Singles final.

Navratilova’s US Open triple crown

In 1987, Martina Navratilova achieved something that is almost impossible to do in professional tennis: win the singles, doubles and mixed doubles tournaments at one Grand Slam.

At 30 years old, Navratilova achieved the feat for the first time since Margaret Court in 1970.

The Czech-American star defeated Steffi Graf in the Ladies Singles final, 7-6 6-1. In the Ladies Doubles final, Navratilova and Pam Shriver beat Kathy Jordan and Elizabeth Smylie, 5-7 6-4 6-3.

Navratilova also won the Mixed Doubles title at the event. Playing alongside Spain’s Emilio Sanchez, they defeated Betsy Nagelsen and Paul Annacone 6-4 6-7 7-6.

The last set tiebreak in the mixed doubles final was extremely close, with Navratilova and Sanchez winning a ten-point tiebreak by 14 points to 12.
