Nigeria booked their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024 football tournament with a commanding 5–0 victory over Zambia in Casablanca on Friday (18 July).Billed as the “final before the final,” the Super Falcons struck early, with defender Osinachi Ohale heading in a free-kick from Esther Okoronkwo in just the second minute.Okoronkwo doubled the lead on the half-hour mark, finishing a flowing team move with precision. Chinwendu Ihezuo added a third just before halftime, leaving 2022 bronze medallists Zambia, who had been impressive in the group stage, reeling.Nigeria maintained their dominance in the second half. Oluwatosin Demehin made it 4–0, before substitute Folashade Ijamilusi capped the performance with a stoppage-time goal to send Barbara Banda and company packing.The Super Falcons have now scored an impressive nine goals in their four games in the tournament, and have yet to concede a goal.It was a statement win from the nine-time African champions, who now move one step closer to a record-extending 10th continental title.They next face South Africa or Senegal.
