Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly face fresh competition to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose reasons for leaving the Champions League holders are revealed.Paris Saint-Germain are expecting offers from no fewer than three clubs for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to a report. The Italy international - who is one of 30 players to have been shortlisted for the 2025 Ballon d'Or award - is seemingly edging closer to a summer exit from the reigning European champions.Donnarumma is now in the final year of his contract with PSG, and no extension is in sight for the 26-year-old, who should therefore be sold this summer before a potential free transfer in 2026.Les Parisiens are understood to have agreed a deal to sign Lille number one Lucas Chevalier to replace Donnarumma, who has inevitably been tipped to move to the Premier League after four years in Paris.Chelsea and Manchester United have long been regarded as the two favourites for the 26-year-old, while Manchester City were also credited with an interest but have now re-signed James Trafford from Burnley.PSG 'expect' Donnarumma transfer bids from Man Utd, ChelseaHowever, a third club could still derail Man United and Chelsea's transfer ambitions, as ESPN reports that the Red Devils, the Blues and Inter Milan are all expected to make approaches for the goalkeeper.Inter's current number one Yann Sommer is regarded as one of the finest shot-stoppers on the planet, but the Swiss veteran turns 37 in December and is also due to become a free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season.Sommer's backup is 27-year-old Josep Martinez - who joined from Genoa last year - but the Nerazzurri have seemingly settled on Donnarumma as their new number one option and have been in touch with his agent Enzo Raiola.Man United and Chelsea have also had contact with the Italian's representative, and PSG are now bracing for official bids for the former AC Milan starlet, who left San Siro on a free transfer in 2021 to join Les Parisiens.Donnarumma has since registered 56 clean sheets in 161 appearances for the Ligue 1 and Champions League winners, registering six shut-outs en route to European glory last season. Why is Man Utd, Chelsea-linked Donnarumma leaving PSG?In an ideal world, Donnarumma and PSG would have prolonged their partnership, but the two parties could not come to an agreement over a new deal, partly due to wage demands. The report adds that Donnarumma wanted a raise on his monthly £736,000 salary, while PSG football advisor Luis Campos has implemented a new payment structure, made up of a lower base wage with the potential for high individual and team-related bonuses. However, the Italy number one disagreed with Campos's new financial plans, while on the pitch, Enrique took notice of Donnarumma's supposed limitations on the ball. The former Barcelona boss apparently feels that Chevalier is superior with the ball at his feet and in terms of distribution - both long-range and playing out from the back - so he also has no qualms about swapping Donnarumma for the Frenchman.
