Dominic Calvert-Lewin suggests he now wants to stay at Everton because of three reasons

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s status as an Everton player has been up in the air for quite a while now.

The 28-year-old Everton striker is now in his ninth season with the club making him the second longest-serving player in the squad.

David Moyes will know he wants to get the best out of him, and made that clear when he arrived, as Moyes wanted to get Calvert-Lewin’s confidence back.

That has remained to be seen, as Calvert-Lewin’s injury vs Brighton has kept him out for three months, putting a stop to that progression.

Now it’s clear that Calvert-Lewin could leave the club this summer, and has made his feelings obvious ahead of the window.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaks out on Everton future

It would be real shame to see his story come to an end, but Moyes might not have a choice.

With Beto finding his feet at the club, and the Scotsman likely to sign a new striker, who knows what’s left for Calvert-Lewin on Merseyside.

Moyes does hope Calvert-Lewin remains at Everton, but there is clear interest in the forward.

West Ham and Newcastle want Calvert-Lewin, but that will turn into a whole host of clubs if the striker doesn’t sign a new deal, which is expiring this summer.

Speaking to BBC Sport though, Calvert-Lewin might have just hinted why he might end up staying.

“I’m an Everton player and my focus will always be on doing my best for Everton and I have a lot of respect for Everton football club,” Calvert-Lewin said.

“It’s given me everything I have today.

“My main focus is making sure I am in the best condition, it is like going through a mini pre-season to get fit for these last four games.

“With the new manager coming in the club is moving in the right direction, there’s a new stadium and there’s a lot to be positive about.

“Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?”

Calvert-Lewin and Everton should finally part ways

It’s frustrating that his time with the club has come to this, and despite his desire to stay, it seems like his journey should come to an end.

His injury vs Brighton exemplifies his time here, as despite being a raging success under Carlo Ancelotti, his form has died down since.

Calvert-Lewin’s best season for Everton (20/21) Games played 33 Goals 16 Non-penalty xG 16.3 Touches in opposition box 150 Aerial duels won % 53.3%

There’s clear signs he can still reach this form again, but with the fitness levels he possesses, it might be too much of a risk for Moyes to keep him on with the task at hand.

Everton are open to Calvert-Lewin contract talks, but another season could turn out to be a grave mistake.
