Men’s Tennis Faces High-Level Competition at Princeton’s Farnsworth Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Ernesto Ruy and Santiago Valle of the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team took on some stiff competition over the weekend as the Hawks took part in the Farnsworth Invitational at Princeton University. The Hawks joined a field that included players from Memphis, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, and host Princeton.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the hidden dual format, Ruy and Valle played alongside players from Ole Miss on Friday, facing off with players from Old Dominion. Valle claimed the opening set in his singles match before ultimately falling in three.

• Valle again played a three-set match against an opponent from Ole Miss on Saturday while Ruy took on an opponent from Princeton.

• Sunday saw the pair teamed up with players from Notre Dame; they took on a duo from Memphis in doubles before matching up with the same pair in singles play.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

• The Hawks found themselves among elite company at the event, as Princeton was ranked 35th in the country in the ITA rankings at the end of the 2024-25 season, while Memphis was #48, Old Dominion #56, Ole Miss #57, and Notre Dame #66.

"What a great weekend," head coach Jeff Puhan said. "To be invited to compete against Ole Miss, Memphis, Princeton, Notre Dame, and Old Dominion means a lot to our program. It was a challenging weekend, learning what it takes mentally and physically to compete at this level. I'm looking forward to where we go from here."

UP NEXT

The Hawks will compete in two different locations next weekend, with Ruy and Othman Bezzaz competing in the ITA East Sectional Championship in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, beginning on Thursday, while other team members take part in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland, beginning on Friday.
