Man Utd legend says he would want Ruben Amorim's job 'now', he has a single reason

No alarm bells are going off on Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United right now, but that hasn’t stopped one Man Utd legend from wanting the job.

After arriving at Old Trafford in November 2024, Ruben Amorim has had a trial by fire at Manchester United, amongst all the injuries, executive upheaval, and falling results.

However, by his own admission, “good times are coming”, a standard he will be judged on next season after what was effectively a free hit 2024/25 season for him.

As he prepares to take United on his first full season, one Man Utd legend has said he would want to take the United job ‘now’ for a single reason.

Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd job wanted by Nemanja Vidic

When speaking about former Man Utd players who have gone on and excelled in management, or even had a long history in the profession, Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t be one of them.

Vidic has left the game, at least on the pitch, with his name linked to executive roles in the past, particularly for Serbian FA roles.

However, when Gary Neville asked him which football club he would like to manage during a conversation for The Overlap, Vidic didn’t hesitate twice before not just saying Man Utd, but adding that he would like to do it now.

Vidic said: “[I would like to coach Man Utd]. Now. I like things when they are difficult. To change from difficult to good is something I like to do.”

Vidic’s reason is an endorsement for Ruben Amorim

While it might seem at first glance that Vidic is undermining Amorim, his reason for the answer is an endorsement for the Man Utd manager.

That is because Vidic’s reasoning for wanting to manage United echoes what Amorim has already spoken about after coming.

Amorim has also said that he wanted to join United when the club was struggling, because he relishes the challenge of awakening a sleeping giant, much like Vidic.

He has already done the same job at Sporting, albeit at a smaller scale, by restoring the reputation of a club that had last won the title in 2001/02 before he arrived.

It goes without saying that Vidic would be extremely pleased if he repeated those heroics at Old Trafford!
