£25m player has been pulled out of the Liverpool squad at the last minute, he's about to be sold

Liverpool will begin their 2025/26 Premier League campaign by facing Bournemouth at Anfield.

The Reds began the competitive season with a disappointing penalty shootout loss to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, with Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott all failing to convert from 12 yards.

There is plenty of excitement at Anfield as the reigning Premier League champions will boast several new star-studded names in their squad.

Furthermore, Bournemouth will travel without Justin Kluivert, their leading goalscorer from last season, and will be heavily depleted after a summer in which several key players, including Milos Kerkez, have left the Vitality Stadium.

However, the upcoming clash between the sides has not been the only topic of discussion, as now one Reds player looks set to make the switch to the South Coast.

Liverpool set to sell Ben Doak to Bournemouth

According to Paul Joyce, Ben Doak has been withdrawn from the Liverpool squad on Friday as he closes in on a £25 million move to Bournemouth.

Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town saw bids rejected for Doak in January due to his impressive displays on loan at Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

TBR Football exclusively revealed last season that Antoine Semenyo and Doak would not swap clubs, as had been widely speculated at the time of reporting, and now the pair are set to link up at the Vitality Stadium.

Doak has struggled to break into the first-team squad at Anfield, and despite producing an impressive return of three goals and seven assists in 24 Championship outings, it appears Arne Slot is willing to grant the forward his wish to leave for regular minutes.

The 19-year-old was impressive during pre-season, notably against Athletic Bilbao, where he thrived against a side that finished fourth in La Liga last season, adding his name to the scoresheet.

What will Liverpool’s net spend be after the Ben Doak sale?

Liverpool have embarked on a monumental spending spree throughout the summer transfer window and are showing no signs of slowing down.

As TBR Football exclusively revealed, Giovanni Leoni will sign for the Reds after a fee worth approximately £30 million was agreed with Parma.

Richard Hughes has been an efficient seller too, generating a combined £111 million for the sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

2025 Summer Transfer Window Spent Received Net Spend Liverpool £261,747,865 £169,181,155 £92,566,710 Figures provided by Transfermarkt.

The Reds are set to earn a significant profit on the £600,000 outlay paid in tribunal fees to acquire Doak from Celtic in 2022.

Should his transfer to Bournemouth proceed as planned, Liverpool’s net spend will drop to roughly £65.5 million, leaving plenty more financial wiggle room for Hughes to continue papering over the cracks in the squad.
