Reported Liverpool target Morgan Rogers has been asked about transfer interest during the summer window

Morgan Rogers says Unai Emery's trust in him 'means everything' as he remained with Aston Villa this summer. The midfielder's comments come amid new transfer links to Liverpool for the next phase of Arne Slot's rebuild.

In the aftermath of Liverpool's summer transfer business, early reports have started to suggest the next phase of the plan will be scout out a long-term heir to Mohamed Salah. Villa star Rogers is one reportedly played down by club officials, but at this stage anything remains possible.

The 23-year-old was voted PFA young player of the year for his 30 goal contributions across the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup last season. According to the ECHO's sister site, Birmingham Live, this attracted rival interest when the summer market was open.

But a final decision came down to Villa boss Emery, who ruled Rogers was a key part of his project he was unwilling to sacrifice.

Asked on talkSPORT what Emery’s support means to him, Rogers replied: "It means everything. As a player, when you feel wanted, loved, and you feel like they want you to be there, and want you to be a key member of the squad, it means everything to you as a player.

"As a player, it’s alright having outside noise and fans liking you, that’s one thing, but to have the manager, who picks the team, to back you - that means everything.

"He just allows me to play football and express myself. He knows I won’t always get it right or get it perfect, but he just trusts me to a point where he knows I will give it my all.

"If it doesn’t work, then it’s OK - we’ll try again and go to the next game. Having that manager is perfect and just what I needed at this time of my career."

Rogers was personally picked out by Emery after he analysed his play for former club Middlesbrough ahead of a January 2024 FA Cup tie. Weeks later the prospect signed for Villa in a £15m deal.

In under two years since, the CIES Football Observatory now rate Rogers to have an estimated transfer value between €108m (£93.8m) to €125m (£108.4m).

Rogers is part of the England national squad who will take on Andorra (September 6) and Serbia (September 9) in FIFA World Cup qualifiers during the current international break.

And Liverpool supporters might get the opportunity for a closer look at this reported target when Villa visit Anfield in the league at the start of November.
