Carlos Alcaraz admits he will 'try not to think about' Donald Trump attending Sunday's US Open final in a bid to avoid nerves ahead of his clash with Jannik Sinner.

Spanish sensation Alcaraz, the current world No 2, cruised past tennis legend Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Friday to set up another mouthwatering battle against top-ranked Italian foe Sinner.

The sport's new titanic duo have already collided in two Grand Slam finals this year; with Carlos mounting a comeback for the ages to prevail in five sets at the French Open, before Jannik gained revenge in their Wimbledon battle two months later.

Now they are poised to lock horns in another final at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where there will be a very special guest watching on after it was revealed that Trump plans to attend in New York City.

Though when asked about the prospect of the president being there, Alcaraz said he is trying to put it to the back of his mind.

'It is a privilege for the tournaments having the president from every country just to support the tournament, to support tennis, and to support the match,' he initially told reporters when quizzed about Trump after his win over Djokovic.

'For me, playing in front of him... to be honest, I will try not to think about it. I don't want myself to be nervous because of it.

'But I think attending the tennis match, it's great for tennis to have the president into the final.'

Trump has made sport a huge part of his second term as president, with Sunday's tennis showpiece the second big event in New York he is expected to attend in the coming days.

After the US Open final, he is also expected to be at Yankee Stadium on September 11 on the anniversary of the attack on the city. That night, the playoff-chasing New York Yankees host Detroit Tigers in the Bronx, one of the best teams in baseball this season.
