Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has sent a message to the supporters who left Old Trafford early in Thursday night's Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon.

Old Trafford hosted another memorable European night as Ruben Amorim's men came from behind to seal their spot in the semi-final. After racing into a 2-0 lead in the first-half, 4-2 up in aggregate, United found themselves 4-2 in the 110th minute.

Bruno Fernandes halved the deficit from the penalty spot before Kobbie Mainoo made it 6-6 on aggregate in the final minute. The series of events didn't stop then when Harry Maguire headed home a dramatic winner to send the home fans into ruptures.

United will now play Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals in a bid to keep their season alive. Amorim's men are set to record their worst-ever finish in the Premier League and the Europa League is their only hope of sealing European football for next season.

When Rayan Cherki and Alexandra Lacazette scored for Lyon in extra-time, thousands inside Old Trafford decided to make their way to the exits. However, many returned to their seats as the turnaround commenced to witness history.

Zirkzee, who missed the action due to a season-ending hamstring injury, took to social media to pose a message to those fans that decided to leave early. Recording to the full-time scenes of fans singing 'U-N-I-T-E-D, United are the team for me,' he wrote: "To all the fans who left when we were down. Have a listen to this."

Thousands stayed behind after the final-whistle to celebrate the win with the players. Maguire, Fernandes, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund all embraced the reception from the supporters as they made their way down to the tunnel.
