Manchester United now in talks to sign Premier League star, unwanted attacker could go the other way

Manchester United have suffered a blow with goalkeeper Andre Onana set to miss the start of the Premier League season through injury.

Manchester United’s Premier League kick-off is looming as Ruben Amorim prepares for his first full season in charge.

This weekend’s pre-season clash against Leeds United will kick-start the preparations, with Amorim hoping to see signs of improvement.

Amorim’s plans have taken an early dent, though, as Andre Onana has picked up an injury and could miss six weeks.

Altay Bayindir was seemingly looking to leave United, but may now need to stay in order to cover for Onana.

Millwall were even looking at Radek Vitek, but it’s unlikely that the Czech stopper will be loaned out with Onana unavailable.

Manchester United move for Emiliano Martinez

United may now be in the market for another stopper, though Amorim will surely want to take a look at Vitek over the summer.

Botafogo’s John Victor is on United’s radar, but another South American target is on the wish list.

Argentinian reporter Gaston Edul now claims that United have made a move to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Edul is arguably the most reliable reporter in Argentinian football and claims that talks are now underway between United and Villa.

‘Manchester United made a move specifically for Emiliano Dibu Martínez. Negotiations are already underway with Aston Villa,’ said Edul.

The 32-year-old has established himself as one of the world’s top goalkeepers in recent years and helped Argentina win the World Cup in 2022.

Martinez still has four years left on his Villa contract, but Unai Emery’s side missed out on the Champions League and may need to cash in.

Manchester United players hear about Martinez interest as Aston Villa chase Alejandro Garnacho

The Daily Mail add that United’s players have ‘heard that the club still intend’ to sign Martinez this summer.

That report adds that United have made an enquiry, but the deal has yet to progress any further.

Edul has heard otherwise, and a deal for Martinez to join United may involve a player heading in the opposite direction.

The Mail note that Villa are interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho this summer, after sending Marcus Rashford back to Old Trafford.

Garnacho has been told to leave United, and Emery seemingly fancies luring him to Villa Park.

Garnacho needs a fresh start away from United and may find a home at Villa Park, meaning he would potentially face United in the Premier League for years to come.

Martinez and Garnacho are international teammates with Argentina, but may now switch places during the summer window.
